2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, CentroMed excels in its mission of providing |

3 | 3 | | comprehensive, quality medical services for residents of Bexar |

4 | 4 | | County; and |

5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1973 as El Centro del Barrio, the |
---|
6 | 6 | | program was initially a counseling service for children and |
---|
7 | 7 | | adolescents; today a Federally Qualified Health Center, CentroMed |
---|
8 | 8 | | manages 23 clinics throughout Bexar and Comal Counties, where its |
---|
9 | 9 | | largely bilingual staff works to address the needs of low-income, |
---|
10 | 10 | | uninsured, and medically underserved families; no patient is |
---|
11 | 11 | | denied care based on ability to pay, and uninsured and ineligible |
---|
12 | 12 | | clients are charged a reasonable sliding-scale fee to help cover |
---|
13 | 13 | | the cost of operation; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, CentroMed is unique among Federally Qualified |
---|
15 | 15 | | Health Centers in the volume of clients who are treated at its |
---|
16 | 16 | | clinics; in 2014 alone, more than 71,000 patients received care |
---|
17 | 17 | | from CentroMed, 95 percent of whom lived below the federal |
---|
18 | 18 | | poverty line; its continued success in meeting this high demand |
---|
19 | 19 | | is made possible in part by funding support and by partnerships |
---|
20 | 20 | | with state indigent health programs, with agencies like the Texas |
---|
21 | 21 | | Department of State Health Services, and with several area |
---|
22 | 22 | | universities, hospitals, and homeless shelters; through the |
---|
23 | 23 | | medical help it offers to persons experiencing homelessness at |
---|
24 | 24 | | the Haven for Hope Transitional Campus near downtown San Antonio, |
---|
25 | 25 | | CentroMed is also the only Health Care for the Homeless grantee |
---|
26 | 26 | | in Bexar County; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A trusted resource for countless area Texans, |
---|
28 | 28 | | CentroMed has made inestimable contributions to the health and |
---|
29 | 29 | | well-being of a vulnerable population in the region, and it is fitting |
---|
30 | 30 | | to commend the institution's dedicated staff and community |
---|
31 | 31 | | partners for their collective efforts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize CentroMed for its exceptional |
---|
34 | 34 | | service to the community and extend to all those associated with |
---|
35 | 35 | | CentroMed sincere best wishes for continued success in their |
---|
36 | 36 | | vital endeavors; and, be it further |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
