| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club, which is |

| 4 | 4 | | celebrating 100 years of community service on January 9, 2016; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | established in 1916, one year prior to the founding of Lions |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | International, and it is the oldest continuously operating Lions |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Club in the world; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The club's members follow a very simple motto, "We |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Serve," and they have been living up to that promise for a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | century; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In its early years, the club focused on efforts |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | supporting World War I, such as selling war bonds and raising |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | funds for the Red Cross; today, the club continues to be a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | resource in times of crisis, while regularly promoting a broad |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | range of local and regional initiatives; the chapter has gained |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | recognition for its extensive volunteer work benefiting students |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | uphold a proud tradition of community service and promote the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | values of good citizenship; they are indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | recognition for their many contributions to the city and the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | region; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Austin Downtown |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Founder Lions Club for their invaluable contributions to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | community and extend congratulations to all as they celebrate 100 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | years of service; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
