| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the American Heart Association and Texans across the state |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | in recognizing February 6, 2015, as National Wear Red Day in |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Heart disease is the leading cause of death among |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | women, and an estimated 44 million women in the United States are |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | affected by cardiovascular diseases; 90 percent of women exhibit |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | risk factors for developing heart disease, and since 1984, more |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | women than men have died each year from heart disease; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Despite these facts, only a small percent of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | American women believe heart disease to be their most serious |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | health threat; to raise awareness of the risks of heart disease, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the American Heart Association has established the Go Red for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Women movement, which has helped countless women make healthy |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | behavioral changes in their lifestyles; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The Go Red for Women movement has stimulated |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | conversation among women about the need to employ such effective |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | measures as monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | exercising, making healthy food choices, and quitting smoking; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that a day be set aside to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | raise awareness of the impact that heart disease has on the women |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of our state and nation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby encourage Texans to promote heart-healthy |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | lifestyle choices and to support efforts to fight heart disease |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in women by wearing red on National Wear Red Day; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | honor of this special occasion. |
