SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 553
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the American Legion and its efforts to honor the
service and sacrifice of American military veterans and their
families; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion Department of Texas District
2 Spring Convention is being held in Jasper and is being hosted by
American Legion Post 78, the William R. Blackshear Post; and
WHEREAS, An honor ceremony on April 25, 2015, will open the
convention and will include a commemoration of the 50th
anniversary of the Vietnam War and a tribute to the fallen and to
the families of Texans who gave their lives in the war; and
WHEREAS, There will also be a special presentation to the
family of Jasper County Judge William R. Blackshear, who died
during World War I in France and for whom American Legion Post 78
is named; and
WHEREAS, All of the honored families are being presented
with a personalized Honor and Remember flag; Honor and Remember
is a national organization created to promote a nationally
recognized flag that would fly continuously as a visible reminder
to all Americans of the lives lost in defense of our national
freedoms; and
WHEREAS, The William R. Blackshear American Legion Post is
one of the oldest American Legion posts in Texas; Post 78 was
founded in Jasper on October 11, 1919; the Texas chapter of Honor
and Remember has established its headquarters in Jasper, and
together these dedicated organizations are paying special
tribute to veterans and their families as they commemorate the
50th anniversary of the Vietnam War; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend the American Legion and all the
veterans and families who are being honored at the American
Legion Department of Texas District 2 Spring Convention; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to
commemorate this special event.
