| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the American Legion and its efforts to honor the |

| 4 | 4 | | service and sacrifice of American military veterans and their |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | families; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The American Legion Department of Texas District |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 2 Spring Convention is being held in Jasper and is being hosted by |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | American Legion Post 78, the William R. Blackshear Post; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An honor ceremony on April 25, 2015, will open the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | convention and will include a commemoration of the 50th |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | anniversary of the Vietnam War and a tribute to the fallen and to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the families of Texans who gave their lives in the war; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, There will also be a special presentation to the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | family of Jasper County Judge William R. Blackshear, who died |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | during World War I in France and for whom American Legion Post 78 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | is named; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, All of the honored families are being presented |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with a personalized Honor and Remember flag; Honor and Remember |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | is a national organization created to promote a nationally |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | recognized flag that would fly continuously as a visible reminder |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to all Americans of the lives lost in defense of our national |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | freedoms; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The William R. Blackshear American Legion Post is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | one of the oldest American Legion posts in Texas; Post 78 was |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | founded in Jasper on October 11, 1919; the Texas chapter of Honor |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and Remember has established its headquarters in Jasper, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | together these dedicated organizations are paying special |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | tribute to veterans and their families as they commemorate the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend the American Legion and all the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | veterans and families who are being honored at the American |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legion Department of Texas District 2 Spring Convention; and, be |
