11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 561
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Ann S. Bishop, who is retiring as executive director of
44 the Employees Retirement System of Texas after a long and
55 distinguished career in public service; and
66 WHEREAS, Ann Bishop is a veteran of state government who
77 has served as deputy comptroller of public accounts and was the
88 first director of the Department of Information Resources when it
99 was created in 1989; she served as chief of staff to Governor Rick
1010 Perry from November of 2012 to February of 2013; and
1111 WHEREAS, She was appointed the executive director of the
1212 Employees Retirement System of Texas in 2004; since that time,
1313 she has overseen programs that provide retirement, deferred
1414 compensation, and flexible benefits for more than 225,000 state
1515 employees and retirees; and
1616 WHEREAS, Under her exemplary guidance, the retirement
1717 system has successfully negotiated cost-saving contracts and
1818 tapped new technology to deliver quality benefits at a reasonable
1919 cost; and
2020 WHEREAS, She has distinguished herself as a state
2121 administrator and is a recipient of the prestigious Bob Bullock
2222 Award for Outstanding Public Stewardship; she is an active
2323 supporter of the Executive Women in Texas Government, and she has
2424 provided mentorship and career training for a variety of
2525 programs; and
2626 WHEREAS, Ann Bishop has handled her far-reaching
2727 responsibilities with exceptional skill and dedication, and she
2828 deserves credit for the retirement system's long-term success;
2929 her presence at the Employees Retirement System of Texas will be
3030 greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3232 Legislature, hereby commend Ann S. Bishop on her exceptional
3333 career and on her many contributions to our state and extend to
3434 her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
