| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the members of Houston's Percussion One, who will be |

| 4 | 4 | | participating in an international cultural exchange in Australia |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | and serving as cultural ambassadors in July of 2015; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Percussion One Foundation was established by |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Lamar Burkhalter with the mission of teaching school-age |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | percussionists to achieve high artistic standards; the organization |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | stresses excellence in education and encourages discipline, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | self-confidence, and responsibility; the percussionists in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | group are from high schools across the Houston area; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Percussion One has performed |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | with an array of notable groups, ranging from the classical |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Houston Symphony Orchestra to the cutting-edge Blue Man Group to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the traditional country acts of Keith Urban and Shania Twain; it |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | has also previously toured abroad in Russia and Germany; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The Australian tour will include the cities of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Sydney and Melbourne, and Percussion One will have live |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | performances and master classes at such venues as McKinnon |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Secondary College, the Australian Academy of Music, the Melbourne |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Marimba Festival, and the Sydney Opera House; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Percussion One Foundation has provided |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | countless opportunities and experiences for young people through |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the years, and the members of Percussion One have performed with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | excellence; it is truly fitting that the group receive special |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | recognition as it undertakes its latest mission to represent our |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | state and nation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of Percussion One on |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | their commitment to excellence and extend to them best wishes for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | a memorable international cultural exchange tour in Australia; |
|---|

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
