44 Martha Ellen Bonner Miller
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Martha Ellen Bonner Miller, who died
77 March 26, 2015, at the age of 90; and
88 WHEREAS, Martha Miller was born on December 16, 1924, in
99 San Antonio, to Willa Calhoun and Z. David Bonner; she was
1010 extremely proud of her family's rich history; she was a direct
1111 descendent of Nathaniel Bilberry, who served in General George
1212 Washington's Commander in Chief Life Guard, and she was related
1313 to United States Vice President John C. Calhoun; and
1414 WHEREAS, Mrs. Miller was hired by the Texas Senate in 1966
1515 to create the Capitol Information and Guide Service; under her
1616 leadership, it became a highly knowledgeable and professional
1717 guide service; she later served for 30 years as executive
1818 director of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel; and
1919 WHEREAS, She was active in a wide range of civic,
2020 historical, and philanthropic organizations, including the
2121 Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the
2222 Confederacy, the Austin Civil War Roundtable, and the Austin
2323 Women's Club; she was a docent of the Texas Governor's Mansion and
2424 served as board president of Zachary Scott Theater; and
2525 WHEREAS, She was a woman of grace, dignity, and discipline
2626 who gave generously to others; she was noted for her intellectual
2727 pursuits and her dry sense of humor, and her enthusiasm for
2828 living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and
2929 WHEREAS, She was devoted to her large and loving family and
3030 extended family members, and she leaves behind memories that will
3131 long be cherished by those who were privileged to share in her
3232 life; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3434 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3535 family of Martha Ellen Bonner Miller; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3737 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3838 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3939 memory of Martha Ellen Bonner Miller.
