| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper for his years of exceptional work |

| 4 | 4 | | in promoting physical fitness, Cooper Aerobics, and The Cooper |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Institute on the occasion of its 45th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cooper founded The Cooper Institute and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Cooper Clinic in 1970, two years after the publication of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Aerobics, his groundbreaking book that introduced a new word into |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the general lexicon and advocated for disease prevention through |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | exercise; the book played a vital role in starting a worldwide |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | fitness movement; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cooper earned his medical degree from the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | University of Oklahoma, and he served the nation's military with |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | distinction for 13 years; he helped create the cardiovascular |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | conditioning program for American astronauts and the fitness |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | tests that are used by military organizations, police |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | departments, and athletic programs; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cooper and Cooper Aerobics have been |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | instrumental in removing harmful trans fat from processed foods |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and in working to combat the growing epidemic of childhood |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | obesity; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Cooper has dedicated his career to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | investigating the links between cardiovascular fitness, good |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | health, and longevity; it is truly fitting that he receive |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | special recognition for the profound impact his work has had on |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the lifestyles of American citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper and the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | physicians and staff of The Cooper Institute and Cooper Aerobics |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | on their commitment to helping people live healthier lives and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | extend to them best wishes on the occasion of the institute's |
|---|
