1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 576
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the residents of Williamson County on the occasion of
4	4	Williamson County Day; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Williamson County is among the fastest-growing
6	6	counties in the nation; its population of 489,250 has seen an
7	7	increase of over 56 percent since 2000, and employment has
8	8	increased by 81.8 percent; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Williamson County is home to one of the
10	10	fastest-growing health care clusters in America; its five
11	11	hospitals and the Texas A&M Health Science Center have
12	12	contributed to an increase in health care employment of over 55
13	13	percent since 2000; the county has been ranked as one of the
14	14	healthiest counties in Texas for six consecutive years; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Williamson County is a center for higher learning
16	16	and offers a variety of educational opportunities at historic
17	17	Southwestern University, Texas State University-Round Rock,
18	18	Austin Community College, and the East Williamson County Higher
19	19	Education Center; and
20	20	WHEREAS, The Texas Life-Sciences Collaboration Center in
21	21	Georgetown is a growing and vital resource for the recruitment
22	22	and acceleration of emerging biotechnology and medical device
23	23	companies and for the furtherance of scientific education in area
24	24	public schools and universities; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Williamson County is also home to Georgetown
26	26	Utility Systems, which will make the City of Georgetown one of
27	27	the largest cities with municipally owned utilities in the nation
28	28	to supply its customers with 100 percent solar and wind energy
29	29	starting in 2016; and
30	30	WHEREAS, The transportation infrastructure of Williamson
31	31	County continues to be expanded to accommodate the area's growth
32	32	and to ensure the safety of its residents and visitors; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Leander, with its Transportation Oriented
34	34	Development, is the northern terminus of the Capital Metro
35	35	commuter rail line and provides local residents with a
36	36	cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation
37	37	alternative; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Williamson County is among the safest places in
39	39	the nation, with one of the lowest crime rates anywhere; and
40	40	WHEREAS, Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Georgetown have been
41	41	listed among the best places to live, launch a new business, and
42	42	retire in America; and
43	43	WHEREAS, Williamson County is the proud home of Texas
44	44	Rangers Triple A affiliate team the Round Rock Express and of
45	45	owner and baseball legend Nolan Ryan; and
46	46	WHEREAS, Williamson County is renowned for its exceptional
47	47	quality of life, and its residents are noted for their
48	48	hospitality, good will, and civic engagement and for the care and
49	49	support they show for neighbors in need; now, therefore, be it
50	50	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
51	51	Legislature, hereby proclaim April 30, 2015, as Williamson
52	52	County Day; and, be it further
53	53	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
54	54	the citizens of Williamson County as an expression of high regard
55	55	from the Texas Senate.
