| 3 | 3 | | through April 2015, and Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio |

| 4 | 4 | | is commemorating the occasion by kicking off a new campaign to |

| 5 | 5 | | raise awareness of the crucial need for organ donors; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, According to statistics gathered by Donate Life |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | America, nearly 124,000 men, women, and children are awaiting |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | organ transplants in the United States, including 11,000 people |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in Texas alone; every 10 minutes, another name is added to this |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | list, and an average of 18 patients die each day before a donor |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | can be found; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Because of this critical shortage, it is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | imperative that every Texan be enabled and encouraged to register |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | as an organ donor, a potentially lifesaving decision that can be |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | made at no cost; among those working to advance this goal are |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Methodist Heart Hospital, a leader in heart and bone marrow |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | transplant in San Antonio, and Methodist Specialty and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Transplant Hospital, a respected name in live kidney and liver |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | transplant; together, they are aiming to sign up 5,000 new donors |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | within the next few months, with the focus of their efforts being |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | on San Antonio and on the cities where they have outreach |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | clinics: Corpus Christi, Laredo, McAllen, Temple, and Lubbock; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Through this campaign, Methodist Healthcare is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | bringing new hope to numerous patients for a longer, healthier |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | life, and it has undertaken an endeavor that truly merits special |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | commendation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Methodist Healthcare System for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | its efforts to educate Texans about the need for organ donors and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | extend to the system sincere best wishes for success in its |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | mission. |
