55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Doris Lee Bass, who died April 7, 2015,
77 at the age of 90; and
88 WHEREAS, Doris Lee Bass was born January 11, 1925, the
99 third child of John Dallas and Rosie Lee Bell Goodman; she grew up
1010 in Athens and earned degrees from Phillips Business School and
1111 Southern Bible College; and
1212 WHEREAS, She was married to the late Theophilus Bass for more
1313 than 50 years; they raised three children, Glenda, Jerome, and
1414 Kelvin, and Mrs. Bass was further blessed with seven grandchildren,
1515 11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and
1616 WHEREAS, She joined the Church of the Living God at an early
1717 age and served her church as an evangelist throughout her life; she
1818 was a longtime member of Church of the Living God, Christian
1919 Workers for Fellowship, Temple 145, in Dallas, where she was active
2020 in a wide range of ministries; she was especially attentive to the
2121 needs of the church's children, and she sponsored the Junior Choir
2222 and a number of other youth programs; and
2323 WHEREAS, She also sang in the Senior Choir and served as
2424 church secretary, Mission Circle chair, and associate minister;
2525 she was a three-time interim pastor and was named pastor emeritus
2626 of Temple 145; and
2727 WHEREAS, Mrs. Bass was a multitalented woman who had
2828 mastered many creative and practical skills; she was noted for
2929 her abilities as a cook and as a seamstress who could make
3030 anything from a men's suit to a choir robe; she also enjoyed a
3131 productive career with Rockwell International; and
3232 WHEREAS, A woman of deep and abiding faith, she gave
3333 unselfishly to others, and her warmth, wisdom, and wise counsel
3434 will not be forgotten; and
3535 WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
3636 and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
3737 her family and her many friends; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3939 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4040 family of Doris Lee Bass; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4242 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4343 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4444 memory of Doris Lee Bass.
