| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Doris Lee Bass, who died April 7, 2015, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | at the age of 90; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Doris Lee Bass was born January 11, 1925, the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | third child of John Dallas and Rosie Lee Bell Goodman; she grew up |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in Athens and earned degrees from Phillips Business School and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Southern Bible College; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, She was married to the late Theophilus Bass for more |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | than 50 years; they raised three children, Glenda, Jerome, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Kelvin, and Mrs. Bass was further blessed with seven grandchildren, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, She joined the Church of the Living God at an early |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | age and served her church as an evangelist throughout her life; she |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | was a longtime member of Church of the Living God, Christian |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Workers for Fellowship, Temple 145, in Dallas, where she was active |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in a wide range of ministries; she was especially attentive to the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | needs of the church's children, and she sponsored the Junior Choir |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and a number of other youth programs; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, She also sang in the Senior Choir and served as |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | church secretary, Mission Circle chair, and associate minister; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | she was a three-time interim pastor and was named pastor emeritus |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of Temple 145; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Bass was a multitalented woman who had |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | mastered many creative and practical skills; she was noted for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | her abilities as a cook and as a seamstress who could make |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | anything from a men's suit to a choir robe; she also enjoyed a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | productive career with Rockwell International; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A woman of deep and abiding faith, she gave |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | unselfishly to others, and her warmth, wisdom, and wise counsel |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | will not be forgotten; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | her family and her many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | family of Doris Lee Bass; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | memory of Doris Lee Bass. |
