SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 592
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Robert Rodriguez for his extensive contributions to
the arts and film industry in Texas; and
WHEREAS, This revered Texan and pioneer of the independent
film revolution has earned widespread acclaim as a major film
director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor, and
musician; and
WHEREAS, He produced his first feature film, El Mariachi,
while a student at The University of Texas at Austin; the
groundbreaking film went on to win the coveted Audience Award at
the Sundance Film Festival and to become the lowest budget movie
ever released by a major studio; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Mr. Rodriguez founded Troublemaker
Studios in Austin; the studio includes a world-renowned visual
effects house and an extensive music and publishing division, and
it has played a major role in making the state capital a vibrant
filmmaking hub; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, he is
also the founder and chairman of El Rey Network, the first major
Texas-based television network that debuted in 2013; he is also a
major advocate for the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive
Program, which has contributed more than $1 billion to the state
economy; and
WHEREAS, Robert Rodriguez enjoys a global following as a
visionary independent filmmaker, and he has worked diligently to
create a thriving film industry in Texas; he is indeed a
treasured citizen of the state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend Robert Rodriguez for his outstanding
contributions to the arts in Texas and extend to him best wishes
in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
