| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Robert Rodriguez for his extensive contributions to |

| 4 | 4 | | the arts and film industry in Texas; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, This revered Texan and pioneer of the independent |

| 6 | 6 | | film revolution has earned widespread acclaim as a major film |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor, and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | musician; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, He produced his first feature film, El Mariachi, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | while a student at The University of Texas at Austin; the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | groundbreaking film went on to win the coveted Audience Award at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Sundance Film Festival and to become the lowest budget movie |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ever released by a major studio; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 2000, Mr. Rodriguez founded Troublemaker |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Studios in Austin; the studio includes a world-renowned visual |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | effects house and an extensive music and publishing division, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | it has played a major role in making the state capital a vibrant |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | filmmaking hub; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his filmmaking endeavors, he is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | also the founder and chairman of El Rey Network, the first major |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Texas-based television network that debuted in 2013; he is also a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | major advocate for the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Program, which has contributed more than $1 billion to the state |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | economy; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Robert Rodriguez enjoys a global following as a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | visionary independent filmmaker, and he has worked diligently to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | create a thriving film industry in Texas; he is indeed a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | treasured citizen of the state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Robert Rodriguez for his outstanding |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | contributions to the arts in Texas and extend to him best wishes |

| 32 | 32 | | in all his future endeavors; and, be it further |
