SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 594
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Don Haynes, band director at Lyndon Baines Johnson High
School, who is retiring at the close of the 2014-2015 school year
after 39 years of exceptional service; and
WHEREAS, Don Haynes joined the staff of Lyndon Baines
Johnson High School right after his graduation from The
University of Texas; over the last four decades, he has shaped an
award-winning band program that has earned widespread
recognition for excellence; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Mr. Haynes has done more than
foster the talents of young musicians; he has fed students when
they lacked food, chauffeured them when they lacked
transportation, and mentored them when they needed guidance; his
students have performed at events throughout the nation and have
had opportunities to perform at overseas locations, including
the Great Wall of China; and
WHEREAS, As a testament to his extraordinary career, he
once shared tea with Lady Bird Johnson to prepare for his
students' role in the groundbreaking of the Lady Bird Johnson
Wildflower Center; in 2007, the Austin Independent School
District named the Lyndon Baines Johnson High School theater in
his honor; and
WHEREAS, Don Haynes truly loves his work and remains
dedicated to the success of his students; he has long held the
respect and admiration of colleagues and young musicians
throughout the state, and he leaves behind an exceptional legacy
of service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
Legislature, hereby commend Don Haynes on his outstanding career
as band director at Lyndon Baines Johnson High School and extend
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
