| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, K9s4COPS has provided |

| 3 | 3 | | generous support to Texas law enforcement, and the organization |

| 4 | 4 | | is celebrating its fourth anniversary in March 2015; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Most police departments and similar agencies |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | operate under tight budget constraints, and trained police dogs |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | can cost as much as $15,000; Houston resident Kristi Hoss |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Schiller founded K9s4COPS in 2010 to donate K9s to law |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | enforcement, and the following year, the group gave four dogs to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the Harris County Sheriff's Office; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The group also works to raise awareness of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | accomplishments of K9s and their handlers, and Kristi Schiller |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | expanded the initiative in 2013 with the establishment of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | K9s4KIDS, which offers K9s to school districts and college |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | campuses; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This noteworthy organization has provided state |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | agencies with 100 trained dogs over the past four years, and the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | K9s have helped capture hundreds of criminals and intercept more |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | than $70 million in contraband, including guns, explosives, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | narcotics, and cash; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through its notable endeavors, K9s4COPS has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | helped many law enforcement agencies more effectively serve and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | protect the citizens of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 26, 2015, as K9s4COPS Day at |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the State Capitol and commend everyone associated with the group |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | for their contributions to public safety; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | from the Texas Senate. |
