| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Xandria Barkwell, who has completed the requirements |

| 4 | 4 | | for earning a Girl Scout Gold Award; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | that can be earned by girls between the ages of 14 and 18; only a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | few Girl Scouts attain this distinguished honor; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Girl Scouts develop leadership and organizational |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | skills through the process of earning a Gold Award, and their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | commitment to the betterment of their community forms the basis |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for a lifetime of active citizenship; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Xandria has shown leadership by designing and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | implementing a service project that will be of lasting benefit to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | her community; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, She worked with the Dallas Fire Department to help |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | raise awareness of the importance of smoke detectors; she gave |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | presentations to numerous groups, which led to the donation of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | more than 350 smoke detectors for people whose homes did not have |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | them; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In receiving the Girl Scout Gold Award, Xandria |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | has brought great honor to herself, her family, her council, and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | her community; she is truly a shining example to the young people |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of this state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Xandria Barkwell on earning the Girl |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Scout Gold Award and congratulate her on this outstanding |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | accomplishment; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
