| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Brownsville and Texans across the state in |

| 4 | 4 | | celebrating January 28, 2015, as Brownsville Day at the State |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Brownsville is the largest city in the lower Rio |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Grande Valley and is the seat of Cameron County; the southernmost |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | city in the state, Brownsville was chartered in 1848 and was |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | named in honor of Major Jacob Brown, who died in action in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | lead-in to the Mexican War; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Brownsville is a center for both the cultural |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | heritage of the United States and that of Mexico; each year, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | centuries of history and tradition are celebrated at a wide array |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of festivals and events; the celebrations bring the two cultures |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | together in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Brownsville community developed |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the Imagine Brownsville Comprehensive Plan in order to implement |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | a bold vision for the future that builds on the strengths of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | people and the region's unique economic assets; it is truly |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | fitting that a day be set aside to celebrate this vibrant |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community's many amenities; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Brownsville on their |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | valuable contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Brownsville Day at |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the State Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 28 | 28 | | the Brownsville delegation as an expression of high regard from |
|---|
