| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the fourth class of Governor William P. Clements |

| 4 | 4 | | Jr. Scholars for their commitment to public service and public |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | policy; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, These young students are participating in the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Clements Legislative Study Program, which is hosted by the Texas |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Conservative Coalition Research Institute; this exemplary |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | program seeks to train, support, and sustain the next generation |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of leaders and public servants and instill in them the values and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | work ethic of former governor William P. Clements Jr.; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Governor Clements overcame the misfortunes that |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | befell his family during the Great Depression to create the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | world's largest offshore drilling company; he won an upset |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | victory to become the state's first Republican governor since |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Reconstruction, and he brought his business acumen to state |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | government and focused on such issues as sound budgeting, crime |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | prevention, and economic diversification; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The Clements Legislative Study Program is the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | only program of its kind to bring conservative students to Austin |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | so that they may gain valuable experience in leadership and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | public service by working directly with members of the Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The members of the fourth class of this special |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | program are Jessica Bearden, Trey Brown, Michelle Brucato, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Richard Gee, Krista Harvey, Bradley Hurt, Ross Leake, and Jeff |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Stice; their time at the Texas Legislature will augment their |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | collegecourseworkincivics,government,andhistoryand |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | will provide a unique learning experience as they pursue their |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | interest in public service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Governor William P. Clements |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Jr. Scholars on their dedication to public policy and service to |

| 34 | 34 | | their state and nation and extend to them best wishes for success |
