2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The year 2015 marks the 35th anniversary of the |

3 | 3 | | founding of Young Conservatives of Texas, and the Texas Senate is |

4 | 4 | | pleased to recognize this significant milestone in the |
---|
5 | 5 | | organization's history; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A group of 177 students met in Austin at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | Stephen F. Austin Hotel on Texas Independence Day, March 2, 1980, |
---|
8 | 8 | | to establish Young Conservatives of Texas; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A nonpartisan and independent youth organization, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Young Conservatives of Texas was founded to attract students who |
---|
11 | 11 | | believe in a conservative philosophy of government and to afford |
---|
12 | 12 | | those students the opportunity to participate effectively in the |
---|
13 | 13 | | political process; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Young Conservatives of Texas is dedicated to |
---|
15 | 15 | | promoting its Statement of Principles, including the beliefs |
---|
16 | 16 | | that the Constitution was instituted for the protection of |
---|
17 | 17 | | God-given rights, that the American system of Federalism, |
---|
18 | 18 | | describing limited government and state sovereignty, serves to |
---|
19 | 19 | | protect those rights, that economic freedom and the free |
---|
20 | 20 | | enterprise system are essential to liberty, and that the aim of |
---|
21 | 21 | | American foreign policy should be the protection of the freedom |
---|
22 | 22 | | of the American people; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, For three and a half decades, Young Conservatives |
---|
24 | 24 | | of Texas has served as a strong force on college campuses |
---|
25 | 25 | | throughout the state, regularly hosting speakers and events |
---|
26 | 26 | | representing a wide range of conservative thought; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The organization is well known for inspiring |
---|
28 | 28 | | young people in our state to become involved in politics, for |
---|
29 | 29 | | maintaining an active presence as a lobby at the Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature, and for placing alumni in all levels of government |
---|
31 | 31 | | and public policy, including the Texas Legislature and |
---|
32 | 32 | | Congress; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Young Conservatives of Texas also maintains a |
---|
34 | 34 | | long running and respected set of legislative ratings that assess |
---|
35 | 35 | | the actions of members of the Texas Legislature according to |
---|
36 | 36 | | their adherence to conservative principles; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, The group successfully advocates for conservative |

38 | 38 | | candidates during both primary and general elections, through |
---|
39 | 39 | | block walking, phone banks, straw polls, and contributions |
---|
40 | 40 | | through its political action committee; moreover, it was |

41 | 41 | | instrumental in the election of both Lieutenant Governor Dan |

42 | 42 | | Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton during the past election |
