| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Abel Alaniz, who died November 13, 2014, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | at the age of 56; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Abel Alaniz was born on February 27, 1958, in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Monahans, to Gloria and Jose Alaniz; he graduated in the top 10 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | percent of his 1976 class at Rio Hondo High School, where he was a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | participant in numerous extracurricular activities; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, He received a full scholarship from the Houston |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Livestock Show and Rodeo and attended Sam Houston State |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | University, where he earned a degree in criminal justice; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After his graduation, Mr. Alaniz began a long and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | productive career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | he first served as a correctional officer but quickly joined the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Parole Division as an institutional parole officer; he was named |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Parole Officer of the Year for Region III before going on to serve |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as a hearing officer and as a regional operations supervisor; in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | 2005, he became director of administration in Austin, and he |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | retired in 2008; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, He married his high school sweetheart, Amanda |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Jaramillo Alaniz, and the couple enjoyed more than three decades |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of marriage; they raised three children together and were blessed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | with eight grandsons; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | life; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | family of Abel Alaniz; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | memory of Abel Alaniz. |
