44 Abel Alaniz
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Abel Alaniz, who died November 13, 2014,
77 at the age of 56; and
88 WHEREAS, Abel Alaniz was born on February 27, 1958, in
99 Monahans, to Gloria and Jose Alaniz; he graduated in the top 10
1010 percent of his 1976 class at Rio Hondo High School, where he was a
1111 participant in numerous extracurricular activities; and
1212 WHEREAS, He received a full scholarship from the Houston
1313 Livestock Show and Rodeo and attended Sam Houston State
1414 University, where he earned a degree in criminal justice; and
1515 WHEREAS, After his graduation, Mr. Alaniz began a long and
1616 productive career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice;
1717 he first served as a correctional officer but quickly joined the
1818 Parole Division as an institutional parole officer; he was named
1919 Parole Officer of the Year for Region III before going on to serve
2020 as a hearing officer and as a regional operations supervisor; in
2121 2005, he became director of administration in Austin, and he
2222 retired in 2008; and
2323 WHEREAS, He married his high school sweetheart, Amanda
2424 Jaramillo Alaniz, and the couple enjoyed more than three decades
2525 of marriage; they raised three children together and were blessed
2626 with eight grandsons; and
2727 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave
2828 generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
2929 will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his
3030 life; and
3131 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
3232 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
3333 his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Abel Alaniz; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Abel Alaniz.
