5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Blanco in mourning the loss of Howard Newton Cox, who |
---|
7 | 7 | | died February 11, 2015, at the age of 81; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This lifelong Texan was born on January 26, 1934, |
---|
9 | 9 | | in Blanco; he enriched the lives of all who knew him through his |
---|
10 | 10 | | wisdom, his warmth, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the |
---|
11 | 11 | | fullest; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, As a young man, Mr. Cox worked as a road paver, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | despite having only a ninth-grade education, he started his own |
---|
14 | 14 | | company, Cox Paving, in 1967; although it was a small business, |
---|
15 | 15 | | the company helped pioneer the paving technique of blending |
---|
16 | 16 | | rubber crumb into asphalt; years later, the company focused on |
---|
17 | 17 | | hot asphalt rubber paving, and to keep up with the demand for the |
---|
18 | 18 | | new processes, Mr. Cox launched D&H Equipment in 2003; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A highly successful entrepreneur, he diversified |
---|
20 | 20 | | his business endeavors by becoming involved with agriculture and |
---|
21 | 21 | | cattle ranching in Belize, and in Texas, he founded the CX Cattle |
---|
22 | 22 | | Company; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cox was devoted to his family and shared |
---|
24 | 24 | | nearly 60 years of marriage with Dolores Cox; they traveled the |
---|
25 | 25 | | globe together, and they were blessed with six children, 19 |
---|
26 | 26 | | grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Howard Cox was respected and admired for his many |
---|
28 | 28 | | contributions to the Blanco community and this state; he was |
---|
29 | 29 | | beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will long be |
---|
30 | 30 | | cherished by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, |
---|
31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Howard Newton Cox; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
38 | 38 | | memory of Howard Cox. |
