55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Blanco in mourning the loss of Howard Newton Cox, who
77 died February 11, 2015, at the age of 81; and
88 WHEREAS, This lifelong Texan was born on January 26, 1934,
99 in Blanco; he enriched the lives of all who knew him through his
1010 wisdom, his warmth, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the
1111 fullest; and
1212 WHEREAS, As a young man, Mr. Cox worked as a road paver, and
1313 despite having only a ninth-grade education, he started his own
1414 company, Cox Paving, in 1967; although it was a small business,
1515 the company helped pioneer the paving technique of blending
1616 rubber crumb into asphalt; years later, the company focused on
1717 hot asphalt rubber paving, and to keep up with the demand for the
1818 new processes, Mr. Cox launched D&H Equipment in 2003; and
1919 WHEREAS, A highly successful entrepreneur, he diversified
2020 his business endeavors by becoming involved with agriculture and
2121 cattle ranching in Belize, and in Texas, he founded the CX Cattle
2222 Company; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mr. Cox was devoted to his family and shared
2424 nearly 60 years of marriage with Dolores Cox; they traveled the
2525 globe together, and they were blessed with six children, 19
2626 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren; and
2727 WHEREAS, Howard Cox was respected and admired for his many
2828 contributions to the Blanco community and this state; he was
2929 beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories that will long be
3030 cherished by all who were privileged to share in his life; now,
3131 therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3333 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3434 family of Howard Newton Cox; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3737 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3838 memory of Howard Cox.
