| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the Senate Ladies Club in honoring those ladies who have |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | been club members for 25 or 50 years; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate Ladies Club originated in 1927 as a |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | social club for ladies who accompanied their husbands to Austin |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | for the 40th Legislative Session; the club was organized to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | provide a means by which the ladies could become better |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | acquainted with one another and introduce themselves to the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Austin community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The club has a tradition of hosting a dinner the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Monday preceding the opening of the legislative session to honor |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the governor and lieutenant governor and their spouses and the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | new members of the Senate and their spouses; the club meets each |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | week on Wednesdays during the regular session; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Active members are those women serving in the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Senate and the wives of senators; associate members are women who |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | are former senators or wives of former senators; and honorary |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | members are the spouses of the current governor, lieutenant |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | governor, and attorney general; membership in the club is, in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | effect, a life membership--"Once a Senate Lady, always a Senate |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Lady"; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Colleen Hightower and Susan Snelson are being |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | honored this year for 50 years of loyal membership and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | outstanding service, and Kathy Carriker, Mary Haley, Helen |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Madla, and Sally Ratliff are being honored as 25-year members; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby pay special tribute to these distinguished |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | ladies and commend them for their accomplishments and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | contributions to our state; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
