5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Catherine Geraldine Green, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | April 21, 2015, at the age of 76; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Catherine Green was born on June 7, 1938, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Lafayette, Louisiana, to Joseph Watson Brown and Mary Agnes |
---|
10 | 10 | | Dartez Brown; after graduating from the Holy Rosary Institute in |
---|
11 | 11 | | Lafayette, she attended Texas Southern University, where she |
---|
12 | 12 | | earned a bachelor's degree in biology; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She enjoyed her professional work in medical |
---|
14 | 14 | | research at the Baylor College of Medicine and at The University |
---|
15 | 15 | | of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; she specialized in the |
---|
16 | 16 | | fields of virology, colon cancer, and immunology; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, She married Jessie Green after her college |
---|
18 | 18 | | graduation, and she was blessed with three children, David Alan |
---|
19 | 19 | | Green, Larry V. Green, and the late Melanie G. Green; she later |
---|
20 | 20 | | became the grandmother of Meggan, Kelsey, Dylan, and Joseph, who |
---|
21 | 21 | | were a source of much pride and joy for her; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her |
---|
23 | 23 | | daily life, she was a member of Saint Benedict the Abbot Catholic |
---|
24 | 24 | | Church, where she taught classes, served as church historian and |
---|
25 | 25 | | as president of the Saint Benedict's Seniors, and was a member of |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Ladies Auxiliary; she was also active in the community as a |
---|
27 | 27 | | volunteer with Child Advocates of Houston and the Leukemia |
---|
28 | 28 | | Lymphoma Society; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she |
---|
30 | 30 | | gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued |
---|
31 | 31 | | counsel will not be forgotten; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, She was devoted to her family and friends, and she |
---|
33 | 33 | | leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who |
---|
34 | 34 | | were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
37 | 37 | | family of Catherine Geraldine Green; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

39 | 39 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
