55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Catherine Geraldine Green, who died
77 April 21, 2015, at the age of 76; and
88 WHEREAS, Catherine Green was born on June 7, 1938, in
99 Lafayette, Louisiana, to Joseph Watson Brown and Mary Agnes
1010 Dartez Brown; after graduating from the Holy Rosary Institute in
1111 Lafayette, she attended Texas Southern University, where she
1212 earned a bachelor's degree in biology; and
1313 WHEREAS, She enjoyed her professional work in medical
1414 research at the Baylor College of Medicine and at The University
1515 of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; she specialized in the
1616 fields of virology, colon cancer, and immunology; and
1717 WHEREAS, She married Jessie Green after her college
1818 graduation, and she was blessed with three children, David Alan
1919 Green, Larry V. Green, and the late Melanie G. Green; she later
2020 became the grandmother of Meggan, Kelsey, Dylan, and Joseph, who
2121 were a source of much pride and joy for her; and
2222 WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her
2323 daily life, she was a member of Saint Benedict the Abbot Catholic
2424 Church, where she taught classes, served as church historian and
2525 as president of the Saint Benedict's Seniors, and was a member of
2626 the Ladies Auxiliary; she was also active in the community as a
2727 volunteer with Child Advocates of Houston and the Leukemia
2828 Lymphoma Society; and
2929 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
3030 gave generously to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued
3131 counsel will not be forgotten; and
3232 WHEREAS, She was devoted to her family and friends, and she
3333 leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who
3434 were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family of Catherine Geraldine Green; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Catherine Geraldine Green.
