| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join Harmony Public Schools in celebrating Texas STEM Education |

| 4 | 4 | | Week in El Paso; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | education is becoming increasingly important as more and more |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | jobs require a strong foundation in these fields; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Mathematics Initiative, or T-STEM Initiative, is a public-private |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | initiative of academies, professional development centers, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | networks designed to improve instruction and academic performance |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | in subjects related to science and mathematics at secondary |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | schools; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Harmony Public Schools have been part of the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | T-STEM Initiative since its inception; Harmony schools have |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | focused on providing high-quality STEM education that will equip |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | students to succeed in the modern world; there are currently only |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 91 schools statewide that are designated as T-STEM academies, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 25 of them are Harmony campuses; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Harmony Public Schools have implemented a number |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of programs to enhance STEM education at all levels; eight |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Harmony schools use Project Lead the Way as part of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | curriculum; the Gateway to Technology program is offered in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Harmony middle schools, and Pathway to Engineering is available |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in Harmony high schools; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Harmony leads the way in First Lego League |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Robotics,FirstTechChallenge,andFirstRobotics;thevisionof |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the Harmony robotics program is "to transform our culture by |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | where young people dream of becoming science and technology |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | heroes"; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the week of May 4 through May 10, |

| 34 | 34 | | 2015, as Celebration of Texas STEM Education Week in El Paso, |

| 35 | 35 | | Texas; and, be it further |
