55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Brownsville and Texans across the state in mourning
77 the loss of Jose Luis Lucio, who died March 26, 2015, at the age
88 of 59; and
99 WHEREAS, Joe Lucio was born in Brownsville on September 17,
1010 1955; one of 10 children born to Eduardo Andres Lucio Sr. and
1111 Josefa Liendo Lucio, he was a descendant of one of the city's
1212 pioneering families, and he grew up together with his siblings,
1313 Beatrice, Eddie, Bertha, Helen, Maggie, Jesse, David, Bob, and
1414 Rick; and
1515 WHEREAS, Joe's love of the guitar began when he was a young
1616 child, and his musical talent not only helped shape his own life,
1717 but enriched the lives of innumerable students and fans; and
1818 WHEREAS, He first learned to play the guitar from his
1919 father, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree in music,
2020 specializing in classical guitar, and a bachelor of music degree
2121 in education; he was privileged to study under accomplished
2222 Bolivian guitarist Javier Calderon, who was a student of
2323 legendary classical guitarist Andres Segovia; and
2424 WHEREAS, Throughout his professional career, Joe Lucio
2525 performed his classical guitar and country music in venues
2626 throughout the state; he was an accomplished songwriter and
2727 recording artist, and he was known to bring audiences to tears
2828 when he honored veterans with his soulful rendition of "God Bless
2929 the USA"; and
3030 WHEREAS, He fostered the talent of aspiring musicians of
3131 all ages as a private and public school teacher and as a college
3232 instructor, and he taught for many years as a private studio
3333 instructor; and
3434 WHEREAS, He was a kind and loving man who shared 20 years of
3535 marriage with Adita Orive-Lucio, and he was a devoted stepfather
3636 to four children and a proud step-grandfather to nine
3737 grandchildren; and
3838 WHEREAS, Joe Lucio had a noble heart and was a uniquely
3939 sensitive man who treasured the beauty he saw in others and in the
4040 world around him; he was known as the Sweet Music Man, and he will
4141 long be remembered with respect and deep affection by all who
4242 were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
4444 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4545 family of Jose Luis Lucio; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4747 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4848 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4949 memory of Joe Lucio.
