SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 673 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the detention officers and jail employees of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department on the occasion of National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, which is being observed May 3 through 9, 2015; and WHEREAS, The Dallas County Sheriff's Department detention service staff is composed of more than 1,500 licensed officers who work alongside an administrative staff that includes approximately 200 clerks in the nation's seventh-largest jail system; detention service workers include jailers, records managers, administrators, caseworkers, and medical providers; and WHEREAS, These dedicated men and women provide custodial care and control for approximately 6,000 inmates each day at the system's five jail facilities and at its new, state-of-the-art medical and mental health facility; and WHEREAS, Approximately 80,000 inmates are booked into Dallas County jail facilities annually, and employees will process more than 100,000 criminal and civil court cases; and WHEREAS, The employees of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department have through the years maintained the highest standards of jail operation, and they are truly deserving of special recognition for the vital role they play in the administration of justice; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend the detention officers and jail employees of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department on their commitment to public service and extend to them best wishes for a memorable National Correctional Officers and Employees Week; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
