55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Jess T. Hay, a champion of higher
77 education and a leading advocate for mental health services in
88 Texas, who died on April 13, 2015; and
99 WHEREAS, Jess Hay was born on January 22, 1931, in Forney;
1010 he enriched the lives of all who knew him through his optimism,
1111 his loyalty, and his valued counsel; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Hay served on The University of Texas System
1313 Board of Regents for 12 years; he also served on the board of
1414 trustees of his alma mater, Southern Methodist University; and
1515 WHEREAS, He was a prominent figure in Democratic Party
1616 politics, and he served on numerous community and statewide
1717 boards; he worked with his beloved wife, the late Betty Jo Hay, to
1818 establish the Texas Mental Health Foundation and the Betty Jo Hay
1919 Distinguished Chair of Mental Health at The University of Texas
2020 Southwestern Medical Center; and
2121 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hay shared more than 53 years of
2222 marriage, and they were blessed with two daughters, three
2323 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and
2424 WHEREAS, Noted for his integrity and his exceptional
2525 accomplishments, he was respected and beloved by many, and his
2626 legacy will live on in the hearts of innumerable citizens for
2727 decades to come; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2929 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3030 family of Jess T. Hay; and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3232 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3333 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3434 memory of Jess T. Hay.
