| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Jess T. Hay, a champion of higher |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | education and a leading advocate for mental health services in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Texas, who died on April 13, 2015; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Jess Hay was born on January 22, 1931, in Forney; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | he enriched the lives of all who knew him through his optimism, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | his loyalty, and his valued counsel; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hay served on The University of Texas System |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Board of Regents for 12 years; he also served on the board of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | trustees of his alma mater, Southern Methodist University; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, He was a prominent figure in Democratic Party |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | politics, and he served on numerous community and statewide |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | boards; he worked with his beloved wife, the late Betty Jo Hay, to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | establish the Texas Mental Health Foundation and the Betty Jo Hay |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Distinguished Chair of Mental Health at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Southwestern Medical Center; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Hay shared more than 53 years of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | marriage, and they were blessed with two daughters, three |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Noted for his integrity and his exceptional |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | accomplishments, he was respected and beloved by many, and his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | legacy will live on in the hearts of innumerable citizens for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | decades to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | family of Jess T. Hay; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
