2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Senate recognizes mental health as a |

3 | 3 | | vital part of the overall health and well-being of individuals |

4 | 4 | | and families; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, There are many dedicated organizations that work |
---|
6 | 6 | | to enrich the lives of individuals in the El Paso community who |
---|
7 | 7 | | have a mental illness and to provide assistance and support to |
---|
8 | 8 | | their families; these organizations include the National |
---|
9 | 9 | | Alliance on Mental Illness-El Paso Affiliate, El Paso Behavioral |
---|
10 | 10 | | Health System, Alternatives Centre for Behavioral Health, Centro |
---|
11 | 11 | | San Vicente, Emergence Health Network, and Paso del Norte Health |
---|
12 | 12 | | Foundation; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Eliminating stigma and negative bias associated |
---|
14 | 14 | | with mental illness helps individuals and their families to cope, |
---|
15 | 15 | | seek timely treatment, recover, and maximize their health and |
---|
16 | 16 | | quality of life; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, All individuals in the El Paso community deserve |
---|
18 | 18 | | to have the knowledge, skill, and opportunity to understand the |
---|
19 | 19 | | facts and recognize the myths surrounding mental illness and to |
---|
20 | 20 | | take timely action to prevent negative health outcomes such as |
---|
21 | 21 | | substance abuse, domestic violence, suicide, incarceration, and |
---|
22 | 22 | | homelessness; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Concerned individuals and organizations are |
---|
24 | 24 | | working to develop, through public and private partnerships, |
---|
25 | 25 | | policies that will eliminate disparities, improve community |
---|
26 | 26 | | outreach and engagement, reduce barriers to access, and ensure |
---|
27 | 27 | | culturally and linguistically competent care and support for |
---|
28 | 28 | | diverse communities; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby recognize May 2015 as National Mental Health |
---|
31 | 31 | | Awareness Month in Texas and commend the people of El Paso County |
---|
32 | 32 | | for their efforts to eliminate stigma and negative bias |
---|
33 | 33 | | associated with mental illness; and, be it further |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an |
---|
35 | 35 | | expression of support and esteem from the Texas Senate. |
