1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 689
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	join promotores and community health workers from across the
4	4	state in celebrating May 18, 2015, as Texas Promotores and
5	5	Community Health Workers Day at the Capitol; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Since the turn of the century, promotores and
7	7	community health workers have been an invaluable resource in the
8	8	many communities they serve across Texas; and
9	9	WHEREAS, As trusted community members, they tirelessly
10	10	promote preventive health care and wellness among the most
11	11	vulnerable and underserved residents in minority populations; and
12	12	WHEREAS, These devoted specialists and caregivers
13	13	integrate information about general health and the public health
14	14	care system into the community's culture, language, and value
15	15	systems and thereby improve access to health and social services;
16	16	they conduct outreach programs in residences, community centers,
17	17	clinics, hospitals, schools, worksites, and shelters, and at
18	18	local cultural events, faith-based locales, and social service
19	19	organizations; and
20	20	WHEREAS, These competent community health and wellness
21	21	advocates provide culturally and linguistically appropriate
22	22	education and raise awareness about the prevention of illness,
23	23	and they navigate early detection screening and treatment of
24	24	illness as well as pain and disease management; these efforts
25	25	improve the quality of care and the level of compliance with
26	26	prescribed care and ultimately save lives; now, therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
28	28	Legislature, hereby commend all those participating in the Texas
29	29	Promotores and Community Health Workers Day at the State Capitol
30	30	and extend to them best wishes for a memorable celebration; and,
31	31	be it further
32	32	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
33	33	honor of this special occasion.
