11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 712
22 WHEREAS, Each year, an average of 1,200 Texas children and
33 adolescents learn that they have some form of cancer; and
44 WHEREAS, A diagnosis of childhood cancer is news that no
55 family can prepare for or envision receiving, and it is too often
66 the first step on a frightening, uncertain, and costly road; and
77 WHEREAS, Texas is fortunate to be home to numerous
88 hospitals that are a part of the Children's Oncology Group, a
99 network of medical centers working to develop the next wave of
1010 lifesaving treatments; together, these institutions are
1111 considered to be the world's pediatric cancer experts; and
1212 WHEREAS, These hospitals are: in San Antonio, Methodist
1313 Children's Hospital, The University of Texas Health Science
1414 Center, Children's Hospital of San Antonio, and Brooke Army
1515 Medical Center; in Houston, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas
1616 Children's Hospital; in Dallas, Children's Medical Center of
1717 Dallas, Medical City Dallas Hospital, and The University of Texas
1818 Southwestern Medical Center; and Dell Children's Medical Center
1919 of Central Texas in Austin, Cook Children's Medical Center in
2020 Fort Worth, El Paso Children's Hospital, Driscoll Children's
2121 Hospital in Corpus Christi, Scott & White Memorial Hospital in
2222 Temple, and Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock; and
2323 WHEREAS, A calendar month has been dedicated to each type
2424 of cancer to help promote awareness and support for those
2525 affected, and September is the month set aside to highlight
2626 childhood cancer; and
2727 WHEREAS, The advancement of medical knowledge and the
2828 collaboration of many individuals and organizations are pivotal
2929 to the search for a cure, and the observance of Childhood Cancer
3030 Awareness Month encourages Texans to affirm their commitment to
3131 that important effort; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3333 Legislature, hereby recognize September 2015 as Childhood Cancer
3434 Awareness Month and commend all those who are involved in the
3535 fight to end this devastating disease.
