| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Each year, an average of 1,200 Texas children and |

| 3 | 3 | | adolescents learn that they have some form of cancer; and |

| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, A diagnosis of childhood cancer is news that no |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | family can prepare for or envision receiving, and it is too often |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the first step on a frightening, uncertain, and costly road; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Texas is fortunate to be home to numerous |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | hospitals that are a part of the Children's Oncology Group, a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | network of medical centers working to develop the next wave of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | lifesaving treatments; together, these institutions are |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | considered to be the world's pediatric cancer experts; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, These hospitals are: in San Antonio, Methodist |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Children's Hospital, The University of Texas Health Science |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Center, Children's Hospital of San Antonio, and Brooke Army |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Medical Center; in Houston, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Children's Hospital; in Dallas, Children's Medical Center of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Dallas, Medical City Dallas Hospital, and The University of Texas |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Southwestern Medical Center; and Dell Children's Medical Center |

| 19 | 19 | | of Central Texas in Austin, Cook Children's Medical Center in |

| 20 | 20 | | Fort Worth, El Paso Children's Hospital, Driscoll Children's |

| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The advancement of medical knowledge and the |

| 28 | 28 | | collaboration of many individuals and organizations are pivotal |

| 29 | 29 | | to the search for a cure, and the observance of Childhood Cancer |

| 30 | 30 | | Awareness Month encourages Texans to affirm their commitment to |

| 31 | 31 | | that important effort; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize September 2015 as Childhood Cancer |

| 34 | 34 | | Awareness Month and commend all those who are involved in the |

| 35 | 35 | | fight to end this devastating disease. |
