| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Wanda Heath Johnson, who is retiring after many years |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | of exceptional service as an educator; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Johnson earned her degrees from Texas |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Southern University while working full time for the United States |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Postal Service in Galena Park; after earning a master's degree in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | elementary education, she began her teaching career as an art |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | instructor at Houston Community College; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, She later joined the faculty at Scroggins |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Elementary School in Houston to follow her dream of teaching |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | young children; during her tenure as a teacher of third and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | fourth graders at the school, she also served as a behavior |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | adjustment teacher, a computer technologist, and an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | instructional coordinator; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson went on to serve the Houston |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Independent School District in numerous capacities and became |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | known as a mentor for other teachers; she was twice named Teacher |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of the Year at Scroggins Elementary School and received the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | prestigious H-E-B Teacher of the Year Award; she is currently |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | serving as president of the Galena Park Independent School |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | District Board of Trustees and is the first African American |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | woman to hold that post; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Johnson has had a profound influence on the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | lives of several generations of students due to her skillful |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | teaching methods, her sincere concern for the individual, and her |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | wise counsel and encouragement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Wanda Heath Johnson on her |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | commitment to excellence in education and on her outstanding |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | career as a teacher and extend to her best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | success in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 34 | 34 | | her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
