| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Caldwell County and Texans across the state |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | in celebrating May 13, 2015, as Caldwell County Day at the State |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Caldwell County was formed in 1848 out of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | territory from Bastrop and Gonzales Counties and is named for |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Mathew Caldwell, a signer of the Texas Declaration of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Independence; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, For many years, the county's economy was based on |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | agriculture; thousands of cattle were driven north on the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Chisholm Trail and other trails in the county, and cotton became |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | a major crop in the 1890s after A. D. Mebane developed strains of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | cotton that could flourish in less fertile soils; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The 1922 discovery of oil in the Luling and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Prairie Lea area served to diversify the county's economy; today, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the production of oil and gas continues to play an important |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | role, along with farming, ranching, and manufacturing in driving |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the region's economy; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Caldwell County offers residents and visitors |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | ample outdoor recreational opportunities and features a wide |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | variety of architectural attractions, including a beautifully |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | restored courthouse and the oldest Episcopal church in Texas; the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | people of Caldwell County eagerly look forward to a bright future |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | while continuing to cherish their rich and colorful past; now, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Caldwell County on |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | their many contributions to our state and extend to them best |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | wishes for a memorable Caldwell County Day at the State Capitol; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
