| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Every day, peace officers devote themselves to |

| 3 | 3 | | the security and well-being of the people they serve, and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Operation Blue Shield is committed to supporting them in their |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | vital mission; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Operation Blue Shield is a community-centric |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | initiative designed to promote better understanding and improved |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | relations between citizens and law enforcement; the campaign |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | encourages open and constructive dialogue between police and the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | wider community and recognizes the importance of acknowledging |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | diverse backgrounds and perspectives; toward that end, it raises |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | funds to underwrite public safety endeavors and to help meet the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | evolving resource needs of peace officers; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This innovative program was founded by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | philanthropist Toni Brinker Pickens and benefits from the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | involvement of the Dallas-based organization Economic Partners |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Investing in Communities, or EPIC; like other EPIC projects, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Operation Blue Shield is backed by a broad range of city leaders, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | civic and charitable organizations, and concerned residents; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | these participants are focusing attention on the message that |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | "We're All In This Together" and are urging Texans to "Go All In" |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to help forge stronger ties between police and the public; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Safe neighborhoods are the foundation of a stable |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and prosperous society, and Operation Blue Shield represents a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | promising new effort to build greater trust between citizens and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the peace officers who protect them; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the Operation Blue Shield |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | initiative and encourage Texans throughout the state to support |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | this worthwhile program; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Operation Blue Shield as an expression of esteem from the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Texas Senate. |
