SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 742 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize May 13, 2015, as Consuelo Mendez Middle School Youth Pathways Program Day at the Capitol; and WHEREAS, This special day is being made possible through the efforts of Dove Springs Proud, the Austin Independent School District, and the Family Resource Center at Consuelo Mendez Middle School; and WHEREAS, The Youth Pathways Program offers seventh and eighth grade students the opportunity to learn leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their lives; and WHEREAS, Participants in the program meet once a week throughout the school year, and volunteers facilitate a variety of classroom activities to stimulate students' personal growth and to help them gain valuable social and emotional learning skills and discover their personal strengths; and WHEREAS, These young scholars also take their first steps in exploring the ways that college can change their lives; they learn how to apply to college and how to request financial aid, and they also visit local colleges and listen to university students discuss campus life; and WHEREAS, This exceptional program plays an important role in helping students prepare to become productive members of today's complex and ever-changing society; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby extend a welcome to these young students on the occasion of Consuelo Mendez Middle School Youth Pathways Program Day at the Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
