55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Orange County in mourning the loss of noted rancher
77 and peace officer Clyde Jordan, who died May 27, 2014; and
88 WHEREAS, Clyde Jordan was born on August 27, 1927; he
99 learned the value of hard work at an early age and began working
1010 cattle as a young man; he served the nation with distinction
1111 during World War II as a military policeman at the Los Alamos
1212 nuclear testing facility; and
1313 WHEREAS, After the war, he returned to ranching, and he
1414 managed several livestock sales in Texas and Louisiana; he also
1515 established Jordan Packing, a custom meat-packing operation; and
1616 WHEREAS, He was elected Orange County Precinct 4 constable
1717 in 1980, and he served with dedication for 16 years; during his
1818 tenure in office, he also served as a captain with the Louisiana
1919 state police and was instrumental in the creation of the Deep
2020 East Texas Narcotics Task Force; after his retirement, he held a
2121 commission as an Orange County reserve deputy sheriff and served
2222 as a director for the Orange County Drainage District; and
2323 WHEREAS, He and his wife, the late Bea Jordan, took part in
2424 a wide variety of community activities and countless
2525 fund-raisers; he was also active in a number of organizations,
2626 including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Vidor Chamber
2727 of Commerce, and the East Texas Peace Officers Association; and
2828 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
2929 gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
3030 counsel will not be forgotten; and
3131 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
3232 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
3333 forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family of Clyde Jordan; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Clyde Jordan.
