| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the citizens of Waco who have come to Austin to |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | celebrate Waco Day at the State Capitol on February 4, 2015; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1849, Waco played a central role in the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | development of the Lone Star State in the 1800s; it served as a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | center for cotton farming, as a stopping point for the cowboys on |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the Chisholm Trail, and as a thriving transportation and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | marketing hub; by the mid-1900s, it had grown into an important |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | manufacturing center, and in recent decades, other sectors such |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | as health care and aerospace have made significant contributions |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to the local economy; tourism is also a factor in the region's |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | prosperity; residents and visitors alike are drawn to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | attractions such as the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Texas |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Rangers Hall of Fame and Museum; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, institutions of higher |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | education have been a key element in Waco's success; Baylor |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | University has been a part of the city since 1887, and Texas State |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Technical College and McLennan Community College have further |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | enhanced the town's reputation as a place of learning and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | innovation; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, During the United States presidency of George W. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Bush, Waco was home to the White House Press Center, which |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | provided briefing and office facilities for the press corps when |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | President Bush was at the "Western White House," his ranch in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Crawford, 20 miles west of Waco; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A fitting symbol of the City of Waco's |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | forward-thinking attitude is the new home of the Greater Waco |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Chamber of Commerce, which opened in June of 2008 and was |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | specifically designed to qualify for gold-level certification |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | from the United States Green Building Council, incorporating a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | range of innovative features to create an environmentally |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | sensitive landmark that serves as a model for additional |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | sustainable construction projects; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Area residents take great pleasure in the city's |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | high quality of life and the scenic surroundings of Lake Waco, |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and they continue to make vital contributions to the Lone Star |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | State as they look forward to a promising future; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | be it |

| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 4, 2015, as Waco Day at |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | the State Capitol and extend to those who have come to celebrate |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | this day a warm welcome and best wishes for a memorable and |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | productive visit to Austin; and, be it further |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a |
