| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The students of Chavez High School in Houston have |

| 3 | 3 | | earned the exceptional distinction of winning the 2014-2015 |

| 4 | 4 | | Vocabulary Bowl; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by Vocabulary.com, the inaugural |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Vocabulary Bowl began on September 1, 2014, and ran through April |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 30, 2015; more than 170,000 students from over 13,000 schools |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | across the United States and Canada competed to see which school |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | could master the most words; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, With an enrollment of more than 3,000 in grades 9 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | through 12, Chavez High School, in the Houston Independent School |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | District, is home to many students who speak English as a second |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | language; by taking on the challenge of the Vocabulary Bowl, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | these fine young Texans greatly expanded their lexicon, and their |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | determination led them to dominate the contest from November |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | onward, as they captured monthly championships at the state and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | North American levels; Chavez students earned first place |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | overall by mastering an impressive 303,387 words, besting the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | runner-up by more than 90,000; for their efforts, the school will |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | receive a championship trophy, and the top students will be |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | honored with medals at a special ceremony; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Through their participation in the Vocabulary |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Bowl, Chavez High School students have shown great initiative and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | ability, and they may indeed look forward to a future bright with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | promise; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the students of Chavez High |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | School on winning the 2014-2015 Vocabulary Bowl and extend to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
