| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Wesley Pickett Dorough for his outstanding service to |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the nation during World War II and for his long career in public |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | service; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Wesley Dorough entered into military service as a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | member of the United States Army in January of 1943; after |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | completing his basic training in Saint Louis, Missouri, he went |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | on maneuvers near the Snake River in Idaho, where he worked on |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | runway construction projects in the mountains before being |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | deployed to the Azores Islands, where his unit built control |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | towers and runways; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He later took part in building a hospital on the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | strategically important island of Okinawa; his unit was |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | preparing for the invasion of the Japanese home islands when the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | deployment of two atomic bombs led to the end of the war; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, After his discharge, he returned home to Cotulla |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and entered into a career in the construction trades; he built |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | numerous homes and worked on several commercial buildings, and he |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | also taught woodworking at the Veterans School; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Dorough joined the Texas Department of Public |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Safety in 1954 and served in communications for nearly three |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | decades; he is truly deserving of recognition for his many years |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of dedicated public service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend Wesley Pickett Dorough on his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | exceptional service to the nation during World War II and on his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | distinguished career with the state; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
