55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of McAllen in mourning the loss of Robert Burns McLeaish
77 Jr., who died April 21, 2015, at the age of 92; and
88 WHEREAS, Bob McLeaish was born January 20, 1923, in
99 Galveston, and he graduated from Los Fresnos High School; he
1010 earned an accounting degree at Texas A&M University and a law
1111 degree at The University of Texas, where he was president of the
1212 Student Bar Association; and
1313 WHEREAS, He served with distinction as a fighter pilot in
1414 the United States Marine Corps during World War II and earned the
1515 rank of Lieutenant Colonel; among his many commendations, he was
1616 awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. McLeaish worked for many years as the Hidalgo
1818 County Auditor, and he later opened up a private practice in
1919 McAllen, where he focused on bankruptcy law; he was active in
2020 Democratic politics, and in 1988, he served as an alternate
2121 delegate to the Democratic National Convention; and
2222 WHEREAS, He was a loving family man who shared 54 years of
2323 marriage with Penny Payte McLeaish, and they were blessed with
2424 five children and two grandchildren; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. McLeaish was a man of spiritual devotion who
2626 was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, and
2727 hewasrespectedthroughoutthecommunityforhiscivic
2828 contributions; he was beloved by many, and he leaves behind
2929 memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged
3030 to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3232 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3333 family of Robert Burns McLeaish Jr.; and, be it further
3434 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3535 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3636 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3737 memory of Bob McLeaish.
