5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of McAllen in mourning the loss of Robert Burns McLeaish |
---|
7 | 7 | | Jr., who died April 21, 2015, at the age of 92; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Bob McLeaish was born January 20, 1923, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Galveston, and he graduated from Los Fresnos High School; he |
---|
10 | 10 | | earned an accounting degree at Texas A&M University and a law |
---|
11 | 11 | | degree at The University of Texas, where he was president of the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Student Bar Association; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, He served with distinction as a fighter pilot in |
---|
14 | 14 | | the United States Marine Corps during World War II and earned the |
---|
15 | 15 | | rank of Lieutenant Colonel; among his many commendations, he was |
---|
16 | 16 | | awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. McLeaish worked for many years as the Hidalgo |
---|
18 | 18 | | County Auditor, and he later opened up a private practice in |
---|
19 | 19 | | McAllen, where he focused on bankruptcy law; he was active in |
---|
20 | 20 | | Democratic politics, and in 1988, he served as an alternate |
---|
21 | 21 | | delegate to the Democratic National Convention; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, He was a loving family man who shared 54 years of |
---|
23 | 23 | | marriage with Penny Payte McLeaish, and they were blessed with |
---|
24 | 24 | | five children and two grandchildren; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. McLeaish was a man of spiritual devotion who |
---|
26 | 26 | | was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | hewasrespectedthroughoutthecommunityforhiscivic |
---|
28 | 28 | | contributions; he was beloved by many, and he leaves behind |
---|
29 | 29 | | memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged |
---|
30 | 30 | | to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
33 | 33 | | family of Robert Burns McLeaish Jr.; and, be it further |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
35 | 35 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
