5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Dr. Donald Wood Patrick, who died April |
---|
7 | 7 | | 25, 2015, at the age of 76; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Donald Patrick was born in San Antonio on August |
---|
9 | 9 | | 28, 1938, along with his twin brother, David; Donald graduated |
---|
10 | 10 | | from Texas A&I University, and he earned a medical degree from |
---|
11 | 11 | | Baylor College of Medicine; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, He served with distinction as chief of |
---|
13 | 13 | | neurosurgery at the 24th evacuation hospital in Vietnam, and he |
---|
14 | 14 | | received a Bronze Star for his exceptional service; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After his military service, he practiced |
---|
16 | 16 | | neurosurgery in Austin for more than 30 years; during that time, |
---|
17 | 17 | | he served as chief of staff and as chief of surgery at hospitals |
---|
18 | 18 | | across the area; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patrick was instrumental in establishing the |
---|
20 | 20 | | city's Emergency Medical Services program, and he served several |
---|
21 | 21 | | times as its director; he was executive director of the Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | Medical Board from 2001 through 2008 and served as president of |
---|
23 | 23 | | the Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A man of many talents and interests, he raised |
---|
25 | 25 | | quarter horses, built and piloted his own airplane, ran marathons |
---|
26 | 26 | | and climbed mountains, played the violin, and traveled |
---|
27 | 27 | | extensively; he placed great importance on lifelong learning, |
---|
28 | 28 | | andheenteredTheUniversityofTexasSchoolofLawattheageof |
---|
29 | 29 | | 55 and later attended the Butler School of Music as a graduate |
---|
30 | 30 | | student; he was an avid supporter of the Austin Symphony |
---|

32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Donald Patrick was beloved by many; a kind and |
---|
33 | 33 | | gracious man, he was noted for his brilliant intellect, his |
---|
34 | 34 | | strong principles and his warm sense of humor, and he will long be |
---|
35 | 35 | | remembered by those who were privileged to share in his life; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, He was devoted to his beloved wife of 26 years, |
---|
37 | 37 | | Carolyn Biebas, and to his children and grandchildren, and he |
---|
38 | 38 | | leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his |
---|
39 | 39 | | family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
41 | 41 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
42 | 42 | | family of Dr. Donald Wood Patrick; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
44 | 44 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
