| 3 | 3 | | Frank Herrera Jr. on May 21 at the 2015 Westside Honors Exitos en |

| 4 | 4 | | Nuestro Barrio Gala in San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Selected as the business honoree, Mr. Herrera is |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | a distinguished member of the legal profession, who was |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | encouraged to become a lawyer by his parents, Frank and Elvira |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Herrera; after earning a bachelor's degree in political science |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and a law degree from Saint Mary's University, he started his own |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | firm, and his parents refinanced their home to help him purchase |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | office furniture and equipment; he later entered into a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | partnership with Phillip Hardberger, a former chief justice of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Texas Fourth Court of Appeals and a mayor of San Antonio, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in 1983, he became the sole owner of the Herrera Law Firm; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Herrera is also board chair and managing |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | partner of Valiente International Ventures, which supplies wheel |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and tire assemblies to the Toyota plant in San Antonio; he has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | dedicated his time, expertise, and resources to the Mexican |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Saint Mary's |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | University Alumni Association, and Central Catholic High School, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and he has served as chair of the board of the New America |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Alliance, which champions Latino entrepreneurship; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Among Mr. Herrera's many awards are the 2010 Pat |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Maloney Sr. Public Service Award from the Northwest Democrats, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the 2002 Hispanic Heritage Award for the Legal Profession from La |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Prensa, the 1994 La Feria Escolar Award for Commitment to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Education, and the 1992 Valerie Kantor Award for Extraordinary |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Achievement from the Mexican American Legal Defense and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Educational Fund; in 2005, he was the grand marshal of the annual |

| 30 | 30 | | César Chavez Foundation Parade; and |

| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The city of San Antonio is indeed fortunate to |

| 32 | 32 | | have passionate and engaged residents like Frank Herrera, whose |

| 33 | 33 | | history of community involvement is an inspiration to all who |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | know him; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Frank Herrera Jr. on his |

| 37 | 37 | | recognition by the Westside Development Corporation at the 2015 |

| 38 | 38 | | Westside Honors Exitos en Nuestro Barrio Gala and extend to him |
