| 5 | 5 | | Nuestro Barrio Gala being held in San Antonio on May 21, 2015; and |

| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Born in Temple in 1940, José María de León |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Hernández began his musical journey in his teens as a guitarist |

| 8 | 8 | | in his cousin's band, David Coronado and the Latinaires, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | after several years of performing live with the group, he became |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | its leader in 1959; he was an influential figure during the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Chicano wave of the early 1970s, and while touring the San |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Francisco Bay Area, he was drawn closer to his cultural roots |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | through the Latinismo movement, which prompted him to rename the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | ensemble Little Joe y La Familia; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The group has built a notable legacy in Tejano |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | music through the decades, cutting more than 50 albums across a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | spectrum of prominent Chicano record labels; in 1992, the band |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | earned the great distinction of becoming the first Tejano act to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | claim a Grammy Award with its win in the Best Mexican-American |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Performance category for the album Diez y Seis de Septiembre, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the ensemble is a three-time winner in the Grammy category for |

| 22 | 22 | | Best Tejano Album; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Little Joe Hernández has led a stellar career in |

| 24 | 24 | | music and has captivated listeners around the globe with his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | remarkable artistry, and he is indeed worthy of this prestigious |

| 26 | 26 | | honor; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |

| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Little Joe Hernández on being |
