| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Roberto Pulido on the occasion of the Edinburg |

| 4 | 4 | | Independent School District's fine arts auditorium at Robert |

| 5 | 5 | | Vela High School being named in his honor; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Roberto Pulido has been at the forefront of music |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in South Texas for many years; a native of Edinburg, he taught |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | music in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | before leaving the field of education to form a group known as Los |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Clasicos; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Under his leadership, Los Clasicos developed a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | musical style that embodies a unique fusion of the traditional |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Tejano orchestral brass sound and the accordion-based sound of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | conjunto, polkas, and cumbias; the new style became immensely |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | popular, and the band's single, Copa Tras Copa, achieved |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | tremendous popularity; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Pulido has produced more than 40 albums over |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the course of his illustrious career, and he continues to draw |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | enthusiastic crowds wherever he performs; known affectionately |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to his fans as "El Primo," he has also produced and starred in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | numerous music and television programs; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, He has made a difference in the lives of many |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | aspiring young musicians by establishing the Roberto Pulido |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Music Scholarship Endowment Fund at The University of Texas--Pan |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | American and The University of Texas at Brownsville; it is truly |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | fitting that the fine arts auditorium at Robert Vela High School |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | be named in his honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Roberto Pulido on his many |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | contributions to the music industry and the culture of South |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Texas and extend to him congratulations on the renaming of the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | fine arts auditorium at Robert Vela High School in his honor; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
