2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Gayle Fallon is retiring as president of the |

3 | 3 | | Houston Federation of Teachers in May 2015, drawing to a close |

4 | 4 | | three and a half decades of outstanding service with the |

5 | 5 | | organization; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, After earning her bachelor's degree in political |
---|
7 | 7 | | science from American University, Gayle Fallon began working as a |
---|
8 | 8 | | Vietnamese linguist and intelligence research analyst for the |
---|
9 | 9 | | National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland; in 1969, she |
---|
10 | 10 | | moved to Harris County, where she was an elementary, high school, |
---|
11 | 11 | | and alternative education teacher for the Aldine Independent |
---|
12 | 12 | | School District; from 1978 to 1980, she taught special education |
---|
13 | 13 | | for the North Forest Independent School District, and in 1981, |
---|
14 | 14 | | she graduated summa cum laude from Sam Houston State University |
---|
15 | 15 | | with a master's degree in educational administration; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Starting in 1980, she has been a staff |
---|
17 | 17 | | representative and president of the Houston Federation of |
---|
18 | 18 | | Teachers, and over her exemplary 35-year tenure, she has played a |
---|
19 | 19 | | vital role in the development and management of the federation, |
---|
20 | 20 | | organizing teachers, handling grievances, managing publications |
---|
21 | 21 | | and public relations, and overseeing political activities; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Houston |
---|
23 | 23 | | federation, she has served as a member of the American Leadership |
---|
24 | 24 | | Forum and the board of the Texas Education Reform Caucus; she is a |
---|
25 | 25 | | graduate of Leadership Houston and has been a member of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | executive boards of the Harris County Central Labor Council and |
---|
27 | 27 | | the Texas affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Gayle Fallon has greatly benefited the members of |
---|
29 | 29 | | the Houston Federation of Teachers through her dedication, |
---|
30 | 30 | | professionalism, and commitment to educators, and she may indeed |
---|
31 | 31 | | reflect with pride on her many career achievements; now, |
---|
32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Gayle Fallon on her retirement |
---|
35 | 35 | | as president of the Houston Federation of Teachers and extend to |

36 | 36 | | her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
