11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 829
22 WHEREAS, Gayle Fallon is retiring as president of the
33 Houston Federation of Teachers in May 2015, drawing to a close
44 three and a half decades of outstanding service with the
55 organization; and
66 WHEREAS, After earning her bachelor's degree in political
77 science from American University, Gayle Fallon began working as a
88 Vietnamese linguist and intelligence research analyst for the
99 National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland; in 1969, she
1010 moved to Harris County, where she was an elementary, high school,
1111 and alternative education teacher for the Aldine Independent
1212 School District; from 1978 to 1980, she taught special education
1313 for the North Forest Independent School District, and in 1981,
1414 she graduated summa cum laude from Sam Houston State University
1515 with a master's degree in educational administration; and
1616 WHEREAS, Starting in 1980, she has been a staff
1717 representative and president of the Houston Federation of
1818 Teachers, and over her exemplary 35-year tenure, she has played a
1919 vital role in the development and management of the federation,
2020 organizing teachers, handling grievances, managing publications
2121 and public relations, and overseeing political activities; and
2222 WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Houston
2323 federation, she has served as a member of the American Leadership
2424 Forum and the board of the Texas Education Reform Caucus; she is a
2525 graduate of Leadership Houston and has been a member of the
2626 executive boards of the Harris County Central Labor Council and
2727 the Texas affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers; and
2828 WHEREAS, Gayle Fallon has greatly benefited the members of
2929 the Houston Federation of Teachers through her dedication,
3030 professionalism, and commitment to educators, and she may indeed
3131 reflect with pride on her many career achievements; now,
3232 therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3434 Legislature, hereby congratulate Gayle Fallon on her retirement
3535 as president of the Houston Federation of Teachers and extend to
3636 her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3838 prepared for her as an expression of high regard from the
3939 Texas Senate.
