11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 831
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 honor the late Nathaniel Williams on the occasion of his 2015
44 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
55 WHEREAS, Nathaniel Williams began his career in education
66 more than half a century ago in Terrell; in 1960, he moved to
77 Dallas, where he served as a teacher, mentor, and coach at
88 various elementary and middle schools in the city, and he led
99 basketball teams at three of his schools to city championships; and
1010 WHEREAS, Mr. Williams went on to become assistant
1111 principal at Pearl C. Anderson Middle School, and he later served
1212 as director of the district's Adult Basic Education Program; he
1313 was active in a number of professional and civic organizations,
1414 notably Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Boy Scouts of America,
1515 who honored him with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award; and
1616 WHEREAS, A highly principled man of courage and
1717 compassion, he had a profound impact on the lives of countless
1818 students, and he is truly deserving of special recognition for
1919 his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2121 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of the
2222 late Nathaniel Williams as he is inducted into the African
2323 American Educators Hall of Fame; and, be it further
2424 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2525 his family as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
