11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 833
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Charlie Mae Smith on the occasion of her 2015 induction
44 into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
55 WHEREAS, Charlie Mae Smith combined her love of reading and
66 her commitment to public service to forge a long and fulfilling
77 career as a librarian; she earned a bachelor's degree from
88 Prairie View A&M University and a master's degree in library
99 science from Texas Woman's University; and
1010 WHEREAS, She is the first African American to be a member
1111 of the Duncanville Public Library Board and to serve as its
1212 president; a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
1313 Incorporated, she was named Texas Outstanding Delta; and
1414 WHEREAS, In recognition of her many contributions to her
1515 community, the Charlie Mae Smith Library Media Center at the Paul
1616 L. Dunbar Learning Center was named in her honor; in addition,
1717 she was named an Oliver Wendell Holmes Classical Academy Living
1818 Legend; she is truly deserving of admiration and respect for her
1919 many achievements; now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2121 Legislature, hereby commend Charlie Mae Smith on her commitment
2222 to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on
2323 her 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of
2424 Fame; and, be it further
2525 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2626 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
