| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Charlie Mae Smith on the occasion of her 2015 induction |

| 4 | 4 | | into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Mae Smith combined her love of reading and |

| 6 | 6 | | her commitment to public service to forge a long and fulfilling |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | career as a librarian; she earned a bachelor's degree from |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Prairie View A&M University and a master's degree in library |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | science from Texas Woman's University; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, She is the first African American to be a member |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the Duncanville Public Library Board and to serve as its |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | president; a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Incorporated, she was named Texas Outstanding Delta; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of her many contributions to her |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | community, the Charlie Mae Smith Library Media Center at the Paul |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | L. Dunbar Learning Center was named in her honor; in addition, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | she was named an Oliver Wendell Holmes Classical Academy Living |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Legend; she is truly deserving of admiration and respect for her |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislature, hereby commend Charlie Mae Smith on her commitment |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | her 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Fame; and, be it further |
