11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 835
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Betty L. Perkins on the occasion of her 2015 induction
44 into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
55 WHEREAS, Betty Perkins is a veteran educator who began her
66 career in the Dallas Independent School District as a fifth-grade
77 teacher at J. N. Ervin Elementary School in 1958; she served the
88 district for 42 years until her retirement in 2001; and
99 WHEREAS, She had a passion for helping students learn to
1010 read and for helping colleagues become skillful reading
1111 instructors; she served as a staff development specialist and
1212 coordinator of the Success in Reading program at Paul L. Dunbar
1313 Learning Center, and she later joined the staff at Sequoyah
1414 Learning Center, where she served as dean of instruction and as
1515 principal; and
1616 WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Betty Perkins used her
1717 professional expertise to support countless teachers in their
1818 educational endeavors; she has been recognized as an Outstanding
1919 Elementary Teacher of America, and it is indeed fitting that she
2020 be honored for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2222 Legislature, hereby commend Betty L. Perkins on 42 years of
2323 educational leadership and extend congratulations to her on her
2424 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame;
2525 and, be it further
2626 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2727 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
