| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Betty L. Perkins on the occasion of her 2015 induction |

| 4 | 4 | | into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Betty Perkins is a veteran educator who began her |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | career in the Dallas Independent School District as a fifth-grade |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | teacher at J. N. Ervin Elementary School in 1958; she served the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | district for 42 years until her retirement in 2001; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, She had a passion for helping students learn to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | read and for helping colleagues become skillful reading |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | instructors; she served as a staff development specialist and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | coordinator of the Success in Reading program at Paul L. Dunbar |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Learning Center, and she later joined the staff at Sequoyah |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Learning Center, where she served as dean of instruction and as |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | principal; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Betty Perkins used her |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | professional expertise to support countless teachers in their |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | educational endeavors; she has been recognized as an Outstanding |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Elementary Teacher of America, and it is indeed fitting that she |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | be honored for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend Betty L. Perkins on 42 years of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | educational leadership and extend congratulations to her on her |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
