11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 836
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize Verna George Brown Mitchell on the occasion of her 2015
44 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and
55 WHEREAS, Verna Mitchell dedicated 35 years of service to
66 the Dallas Independent School District as a teacher, a principal,
77 and an administrator; and
88 WHEREAS, She served in seven of the district's schools, and
99 she was the first principal at Thomas Tolbert Elementary School,
1010 where she implemented a program designated as a national site for
1111 Lights On After School; and
1212 WHEREAS, As a district administrator, she supported
1313 operations in the East Oak Cliff subdistrict, and she was the
1414 program manager of the Office of Discipline and Student
1515 Services; and
1616 WHEREAS, An exemplary leader in the field of education,
1717 Verna was selected out of 300 applicants to attend the Principal
1818 Institute at Harvard University; she has devoted her career to
1919 the education of young citizens, and she is indeed deserving of
2020 recognition for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
2222 Legislature, hereby commend Verna George Brown Mitchell on her
2323 commitment to excellence in education and extend congratulations
2424 to her on her 2015 induction into the African American Educators
2525 Hall of Fame; and, be it further
2626 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2727 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
