| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Verna George Brown Mitchell on the occasion of her 2015 |

| 4 | 4 | | induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Verna Mitchell dedicated 35 years of service to |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | the Dallas Independent School District as a teacher, a principal, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and an administrator; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, She served in seven of the district's schools, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | she was the first principal at Thomas Tolbert Elementary School, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | where she implemented a program designated as a national site for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Lights On After School; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, As a district administrator, she supported |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | operations in the East Oak Cliff subdistrict, and she was the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | program manager of the Office of Discipline and Student |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Services; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary leader in the field of education, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Verna was selected out of 300 applicants to attend the Principal |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Institute at Harvard University; she has devoted her career to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the education of young citizens, and she is indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | recognition for her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend Verna George Brown Mitchell on her |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | commitment to excellence in education and extend congratulations |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to her on her 2015 induction into the African American Educators |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Hall of Fame; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
