| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Mary E. Lester on the occasion of her 2015 induction |

| 4 | 4 | | into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A leader in the field of mathematics instruction, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Mary Lester served as the director of mathematics for the Dallas |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Independent School District from 1974 to 1997; she was the first |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | African American to serve as a director in a major school district in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, As the mathematics director, she developed and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | implemented innovative curriculums and computer-based instruction |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | programs, introduced computer-programming classes for elementary |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | school children, and implemented mathematics competitions that |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | offered college scholarships to students; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lester fostered positive and successful |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | learning environments that helped equip students throughout the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | district with the tools that are needed for continued academic |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | success; she has been a respected and admired educational |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | administrator, and it is truly fitting that she be recognized for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend Mary E. Lester on her commitment to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on her |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and, be it further |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
